A minimum requirement is that equipment used in a physical education session should be visually checked prior to students using it, to ensure it is safe to use, assembled correctly and not damaged or faulty. While staff should make this practice part of their preparation, students should also become involved, reporting any faulty equipment at a level that is compatible with their age, ability and previous experience. In addition to the annual contractor inspections (see page 206 in this section), all schools should have a system for staff to report faulty equipment, and for ensuring that staff in turn are made aware of any faulty equipment.
